What happens
Peggy Nash and Danny Kenny are young New Yorkers who want more from life than their crowded tenement neighborhood offers. Peggy dreams of stage success and dancing, while Danny, a truck driver, is drawn toward a boxing career suggested by a promoter, Scotty McPherson. Their families disapprove of their relationship, and Peggy's hopes take her toward a dance-partner, Murray Burns, who promises to get her onto the stage. The episode is a Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the 1942 Warner Brothers film City for Conquest, which starred Alice Faye and Robert Preston. It was broadcast on February 9, 1942.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
