What happens

Tom Palmer, played by George Raft, and Ruth Brockton, played by June Lang, meet aboard the liner Argyle and grow close during the crossing. When a collision leaves the ship in danger, Tom, who is secretly tied to a gang of jewel thieves, helps the passengers into the lifeboats. The episode is a 1936 broadcast of the Lux Radio Theatre, first aired on August 31, 1936. Afterwards, Ruth's father is called away and asks Tom's family to hold the Brockton jewels in their safe, leaving the two gangs of thieves each scheming to rob the other. Tom and Ruth's romance is complicated by their hidden loyalties as the story unfolds.

A transatlantic liner, the Argyle, four days out of Liverpool, and later the Palmer house in Westchester, New York.

Characters: Tom Palmer, Ruth Brockton, Rosie, Mr. Brockton, Mrs. Palmer, Ferris, Mike, Phil

Listen for: The Argyle's collision in the fog and the lifeboat rescue, then the Palmer house scenes where the two thieving gangs plot against each other over the Brockton jewels.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
