What happens

On a stifling Sunday afternoon in a small town, dentist Biff Grimes and his old friend Snappy Downer reminisce about their youth and a girl named Virginia they both once courted. Biff learns that Hugo Barnes, the man who took Virginia from him, is in town and is due to come to his office for a tooth extraction. Old resentments resurface as Biff recalls the rivalry of their school days. This Lux Radio Theatre production, from the series of the same name, stars Jack Oakie and Helen Twelvetrees, with Cecil B. DeMille introducing the play. The broadcast was originally aired on August 24, 1936.

A small town on a Sunday afternoon, in Biff Grimes's dental office, with flashbacks to Snyder's beer garden and school days.

Characters: Biff Grimes, Snappy Downer, Hugo Barnes, Virginia, Amy, Beth, Andy Mullen

Listen for: Biff's growing resentment toward Hugo Barnes as he recalls the rivalry over Virginia, and the moment Hugo arrives at the office.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
