What happens

Captain January, a lighthouse keeper on the Maine coast, takes in a baby girl rescued from the sea and names her Star. The first act of this Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the 20th Century Fox film stars Lionel Barrymore as the captain and Margaret O'Brien as Star. Star grows up in the lighthouse, celebrating her birthday and learning from the captain, while townsfolk begin to question whether she should attend school. The captain, worried that she will be taken from him, prepares her for an examination before the school board. The transcript ends partway through this sequence, with the captain and Star working through the test and the school board questioning her.

A lighthouse on the rocky coast of Maine, and the nearby village.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
