What happens

Charlotte Vale, a sheltered and unhappy woman dominated by her controlling mother, is sent by Dr. Jaquith to his sanatorium to recover from a nervous breakdown. Once she is well enough to leave, he urges her to take a trip and see the world for herself. Aboard a cruise ship bound for South America, she assumes another identity and meets Jerry Durrance, a married man whose own life is unhappy. This episode of the Lux Radio Theatre is a 1946 radio adaptation of the Warner Bros. film Now, Voyager, with Betty Davis as Charlotte and Gregory Peck as Jerry, first broadcast on February 11, 1946.

Boston and a sanatorium in Vermont, then a cruise ship and the coast of South America, mid-1940s

Characters: Charlotte Vale, Dr. Jaquith, Mrs. Vale, Lisa, Jerry Durrance, Jared Durand, Isabel, Deb

Listen for: Dr. Jaquith's quotation from Walt Whitman, Charlotte's first meeting with Jerry on the shore excursion at Campos, and the confrontation with her mother on her return home

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
