What happens
Lux Radio Theatre presents Battleground, broadcast on February 12, 1951. Soldiers of the 101st Airborne, including the sergeant Kinney and an old veteran named Pop, face cold, snow and German attacks during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. Kinney, a soldier named Kenny, and others move through a village and skirmish with enemy tanks, while a replacement searches for a buddy in another company. The story is told through their daily exchanges, rumors about the fog and the weather, and the strain of a tight, freezing position. Pop receives an official letter that becomes central to the scene, and the soldiers keep pressing on as the cold and the fighting wear on them.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
