What happens
Polly Parish, a young department store worker, is about to lose her job just before Christmas. During her lunch hour she is handed a baby on a doorstep by a woman who abandons it, and she is caught holding it when the foundling home staff arrive. Her employer, Mr. Merlin, believes she has abandoned her child and offers her job back on that condition. Polly insists the baby is not hers, and the story continues from there. This is an episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, first broadcast on January 22, 1940, presenting a stage version of the 1938 comedy Bachelor Mother with Ginger Rogers as Polly and Frederick March as David Merlin.

Listen for: Polly's insistence that the baby is not hers, and Mr. Merlin's offer of her job back
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
