What happens

Violinist Holger Brandt and his longtime accompanist Thomas Stenborg, both from Sweden, give a farewell concert in New York and then return home. Holger's wife Margaret and their children await him, and he becomes increasingly restless with family life. Anita Hoffman, a young pianist who was Anne-Marie Brandt's music teacher, is drawn into a growing emotional connection with Holger. This is the Lux Radio Theatre's dramatization of Intermezzo, broadcast on January 29, 1940, starring Herbert Marshall, Ingrid Bergman and Gail Patrick, and the story is set against Holger's career and the strains on his marriage.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
