What happens

Sergeant Joe Winocchi, a gunner, reports to the crew of a Boeing B-17 flying fortress named the Marianne at Mather Field, California, on December 6, 1941. Crew chief Sergeant White, pilot Captain Quinn Cannon and the rest of the crew prepare for a flight whose destination they have not yet been told. Winocchi resents the assignment and carries a grudge against the captain over a washed-out pilot training history. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of the Warner Brothers film Air Force, with George Raft and Harry Carey in the lead roles, introduced by producer Cecil B. DeMille. The broadcast is from the Lux Radio Theatre series; the original air date given is July 12, 1943.

Listen for: The news of the Pearl Harbor attack reaching the crew over the radio, and the crew's reactions as they realize the flight has become a combat mission.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
