What happens
Captain Jarvis commands an American merchant tanker crossing the North Atlantic at night, blacked out and shadowed by German U-boats. Joe Rossi, a young seaman, serves under him alongside a crew of mixed backgrounds, including the veteran Pulaski and the gunner Whitey. The crew faces the constant danger of the sea, and their lives are shown both at sea and ashore, where Joe meets Pearl and finds his relationships strained by the demands of war. The broadcast is a 1944 Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the film Action in the North Atlantic, presented by producer Cecil B. DeMille and starring George Raft, Raymond Massey, and Julie Bishop. It aired on May 15, 1944.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
