What happens

Esther Blodgett, a young woman who has come to Hollywood hoping to act, takes a waitressing job at a party thrown by director Casey Burke, where she meets the film star Norman Maine. This is the Lux Radio Theatre's 1937 adaptation of A Star Is Born, broadcast on September 13, 1937, with Janet Gaynor and Robert Montgomery in the lead roles. Esther's first hopes are shaped by her grandmother's encouragement and her own determination. Her meeting with Norman leads to a studio screen test arranged by producer Oliver Niles, and Esther soon begins a career under a new name, Vicki Lester.

A farmhouse on the North Dakota plains and then Hollywood, California, in the 1930s, including Hollywood Boulevard, a boarding house, the central casting office, and a film studio.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
