What happens
Bill, a tramp who once walked the stilts on Broadway, meets Trina, a hungry young woman, on a New York park bench in June 1933. He takes her to dinner and then to a shack by the Hudson River, where she begins to live with him. Their relationship grows as they share a makeshift home, and Bill works to provide for her. The Lux Radio Theatre production, broadcast on December 1, 1941, stars Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman, with Arthur Hoyt and Edgar Barrier also in the cast.
New York City, June 1933, and a shantytown on the Hudson River dump
Characters: Bill, Trina, Ira, Stu, Mark
Listen for: Bill and Trina's first dinner together, and the scene where Trina admires a stove in a store window
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
