What happens

Lum and Abner, the characters of the long-running radio series, learn that a wealthy widow in Texas is seeking a man to manage her estate and marry her. Lum has answered the advertisement and begins to imagine the fortune he might gain, while Abner doubts the plan and struggles with the store and tourist camp left in his hands. Lum starts making plans and daydreaming about the match, and the pair argue over money and responsibility. The episode was originally broadcast on 1940-01-19 on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Characters: Lum, Abner, Squire, Florence

Listen for: Lum's sudden certainty about marrying the widow, and Abner's skepticism about the whole scheme

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
