What happens
Lum Edwards pretends to have a broken leg to avoid taking Sister Simpson to the school social, and the lie grows as the whole town sympathizes with him. Abner Peabody, his friend, worries along with him as the situation spirals. Squire Skimp pushes Lum to file a claim on his accident insurance policy, and Lum fears the consequences of collecting money for an injury he does not have. Meanwhile, neighbors begin collecting pennies for a wheelchair, and the lie becomes harder to undo.
The small community of Pine Ridge, including Jot 'Em Down Store and the town's streets.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
