What happens
Abner is hired by Mr. Edwards to help write pamphlets for a contest in Pine Ridge, and Lum is annoyed that the job went to Abner instead of him. Lum resents losing the position and points out that he is the town's pamphlet writer, while Abner tries to produce something worthwhile for the $10,000 prize. The two bicker over who wrote what, and Abner's attempts at proverbs draw mixed reactions. Mr. Edwards gives Abner a padlock for the workshop and praises a line Abner has written. Lum and Abner trade remarks about disseminating pamphlets around town. This is the Lum and Abner series, first broadcast on February 13, 1942, starring Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle.
Pine Ridge, a small community
Characters: Lum, Abner, Mr. Edwards, Mom
Listen for: Abner's proverb 'Him who helps his mama is a good boy' and Mr. Edwards's praise for it
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
