What happens

Lum and Abner, the proprietors of a general store in Pine Ridge, have given up the modern sales methods they had adopted and return to their old ways. Lum tries to return a book called Magic Salesmanship to a store in the county seat, but the store refuses the return, so the partners decide to burn it. Abner suggests an adding machine as a more useful modern purchase, and Lum mentions the machine he saw in town. Later Lum receives a letter from a Chicago company that praises his purchase of the book and offers him a correspondence course. The episode is part of the long-running radio series, which aired on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, and its lead actors are Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle.

Listen for: Lum opens the letter from Chicago and reads its praise and its offer of a correspondence course.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
