What happens

Lum and Abner, the proprietors of the Jot-Em-Down store in Pine Ridge, must decide how to spend a gift of $10,000 left for the good of the community. Lum and Abner sort through the suggestions the townspeople have submitted, with a box of groceries offered as the prize for the best idea. They decide to award the groceries to a poor townsman, Quincy, and then debate their own plans for the money. Squire Skimp, a shrewd local businessman, arrives pressing an investment scheme and asking pointed questions about the gift. The story is told in the 1942 episode Prize for Best Suggestion of the Lum and Abner radio series, broadcast in April 1942 with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
