What happens

Lum and Abner, the proprietors of the general store in Pine Ridge, are looking into the disappearance of Cedric's license plates. Night watchman Mousey reports seeing a car bearing those plates and a stranger handing packages of pamphlets to Dodge, while Abner and Lum are skeptical of his account. Meanwhile, Abner's wife Elizabeth asks him for shoes, and Lum talks with the Doctor about the constellations, which Mousey's watch duties have made a topic of conversation. The story is part of the Lum and Abner radio series, with Chester Lauck and Norris Goff in the lead roles and Lurene Tuttle also appearing. The episode aired on March 3, 1942.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
