What happens

Lum and Abner, the two lovable old characters of the hill country, are the focus of this episode, which is set in the small town of Pine Ridge. A talent scout arrives to sign Abner's wife, Elizabeth, to a picture contract, but his plans are complicated by the town's gossip and by his own reluctance to leave. The scout grows fond of the friendly townspeople and their simple way of life, and he begins to see the value of the small-town existence he has been passing through. This episode was originally broadcast on March 11, 1940, on the Lum and Abner series, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
