What happens
On New Year's Day in Pine Ridge, Lum and Abner spend a quiet morning at the store. Lum has written out a list of resolutions and is trying to keep it short, while Abner, feeling unwell, sits in the chair and talks about his own plans. Lum decides to be nicer to Abner, but Abner does not want special treatment and says so. The two bicker over who should do the work around the store, each contradicting himself as the talk goes on. The episode is part of the Lum and Abner series, first aired on January 1, 1940, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the leading roles.
The Pine Ridge general store on New Year's Day, 1940
Characters: Lum, Abner, Grandpa Spears
Listen for: Lum's attempt to be nicer to Abner and Abner's insistence that he does not want it, leading to a back-and-forth argument over the store work
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
