What happens

Luigi Basko, a newly arrived Italian immigrant in Chicago, writes letters home to his mother describing his life in America. After a local newspaper pays him two dollars for a funny letter called Why My Face Was Red, Luigi decides he wants a job as a reporter. His friend Pasquale and his teacher Mr. Olson offer blunt and sometimes mistaken advice about the newspaper business. Luigi sets out to gather neighborhood news, bringing him to the newspaper office of Mr. McGarry, where the editor explains what kind of stories his readers want. This is the Life with Luigi radio comedy, written by Stu Howard.

Chicago, an Italian immigrant neighborhood, a school classroom, and a newspaper office

Characters: Luigi Basko, Pasquale Pelligrino, Mr. Olson, Mr. Horowitz, Mr. Schultz, Rosa, Mr. McGarry, Mrs. Pelligrino

Listen for: Luigi's letters to his mother in Italy, and Mr. McGarry's explanation of what makes news for the newspaper's readers

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
