What happens
Luigi Basko, a newcomer to America, writes home to his mother about his experiences. Plagued by unwanted mail-order catalogs and salesmen, he sells a banjo clock to a wealthy department store owner, Mr. Mitchell, for far too little. Luigi is fond of the clock and his chauffeur-like connection to the millionaire leads him to plan a visit to the man's home. Friends advise him on how to act among the rich, and he orders a new suit from a catalog to make a good impression. The series is Life with Luigi, first broadcast on March 6, 1951, and it stars J. Carrol Naish as Luigi with Alan Reed as his father.
Mid-century America, in a city shop, at Luigi's home and at Mr. Mitchell's mansion.
Characters: Luigi Basko, Mr. Mitchell, Sarah, Mama Basko, Papa Basko
Listen for: Luigi's lessons on how to act among the rich, and his mail-order suit's comic mishaps.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
