What happens

Luigi Basco, a newcomer to America, takes a night job at the Daisy Jones Pie Factory to earn money for a Thanksgiving dinner he plans to cook for his friend Pasquale. The job is run by Clarence Cookendall, who dresses as the company's fictitious founder. Luigi's absences from night school soon draw attention, and the school's truant officer begins asking pointed questions about where he has been spending his evenings. Life with Luigi was a comedy series sponsored by Wrigley's spearmint gum, and this episode first aired on November 21, 1950, with J. Carol Nash in the title role and Alan Reed as Pasquale.

Mid-century New York, centred on a night school, a pie factory and an Italian immigrant neighbourhood shortly before Thanksgiving.

Characters: Luigi Basco, Clarence Cookendall, Pasquale, Rosa, Mr. Schultz, Miss Balding, Mr. Orr

Listen for: Luigi's attempts to explain his absences to the truant officer, and the Thanksgiving dinner scene at the end.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
