What happens

Luigi Basko, an Italian immigrant in Chicago, is lost while driving and complains that the Route 66 highway sign is too small to see on the lamppost. At his night school English class, his teacher Miss Pauline tells him that in a democracy anyone may write to his congressman. Luigi takes her advice and sends a letter, but his friend Pasquale fills him with alarm about the consequences for a foreigner. Luigi's worries grow as he tries to set things right in this episode of Life with Luigi, starring J. Carrol Naish, with Alan Reed as Pasquale.

Chicago, Illinois, in the early 1950s, including a night school English class and a printing company

Characters: Luigi Basko, Pasquale, Miss Pauline, Rosa, Mr. Schultz, Mr. Olsen, Mr. Fawnsworth

Listen for: Pasquale's warnings about what a congressman can do to a foreigner, and Luigi's visit to the printing company

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
