What happens

Luigi Basko, a struggling Italian immigrant in America, writes letters home to his mother in Italy about his adventures. On Lincoln's birthday he tries to sell a Lincoln picture in an antique shop, but the owner refuses, and Luigi's business sense is mocked by his friend Pasquale. Feeling like a failure after a rough day, Luigi is pushed by friends to find new work and considers several options, including a short stint as a salesman. The episode is part of the radio series Life with Luigi, broadcast in 1953, starring J. Carrol Naish as Luigi and Alan Reed as Pasquale.

Chicago, around Lincoln's birthday, in an antique shop, a classroom, a barber idea, and a clothing store

Characters: Luigi Basko, Pasquale, Schultz, Mr. Olsen, Miss Spaulding, Mr. Hardwick, Rosa, Mr. Howard

Listen for: Luigi's attempt to sell the Lincoln picture and the friends' talk about Lincoln's own early failures

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
