What happens

Luigi Vasco, a recent immigrant from Italy, is preparing an essay on what America is for his night-school class, which will be judged in front of an audience at the auditorium. He struggles to find facts, so he visits his friend Pasquale's shop and then Alderman Johnson, who offers a rambling and inaccurate account of American history. Luigi then tries to get a library card, which requires a character reference, and he asks Pasquale, Squally and others to sign for him. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
