What happens
Chester A. Riley and his family argue over money and the household budget after his income tax return raises the question of how little they have. Riley learns that a movie called The Life of Riley is being released, while his wife Peg pushes him to cut spending. The family agrees to take turns going to the movies, and a draw of straws decides who goes first. Riley's gambling and a borrowed dollar complicate the evening, and the family's squabbling over money continues. The Life of Riley is a radio comedy series starring William Bendix, and this episode was broadcast on February 25, 1949, on the Blue Network and NBC, with Paula Winslowe as Peg.
The Riley family home, and later a movie theater
Characters: Chester A. Riley, Peg Riley, Junior, Babs, Digger O'Dell
Listen for: Riley's exaggerated retelling of the gangster picture The Three Musketeers, and the family's arguments over the movie budget.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
