What happens

Chester Riley, a California aircraft worker, and his lodge brother Jim Gillis become neighbors when a fire forces the Gillis family to move in with the Rileys while their house is repaired. Crowded living quarters quickly strain the friendship, with squabbles over dinner, bedrooms and chores. Riley agrees to take half the rent, which leaves Gillis claiming equal rights as a co-tenant, and the two men begin a bitter feud over the house. The Life of Riley, a comedy series, was first broadcast on May 4, 1946, on the Blue Network and ABC, with William Bendix in the title role.

Los Angeles, California, in the Riley family's home, a small house with a breakfast nook, living room and bathroom, where the Gillis family stays during the repairs to their house after a fire.

Characters: Chester A. Riley, Jim Gillis, Peg Riley, Babs Riley, Junior Riley, Mrs. Gillis, Edward Gillis, Digby O'Dell

Listen for: Riley and Gillis reciting their lodge oath of everlasting brotherhood, and the chalk line Riley draws across the living room to divide the house.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
