What happens
Riley and his friend Gillis, both fathers of teenage boys, discuss Mother's Day while Riley worries that his son Junior has not bought a gift for his mother. Riley searches the house for a present and is embarrassed to find that Junior has spent the money on a catcher's mitt for himself. The story is part of The Life of Riley, first broadcast on May 11, 1946, on the Blue Network and ABC, with William Bendix in the title role.
A suburban home and the neighborhood around it, with a drugstore window display for Mother's Day.
Characters: Riley, Junior, Gillis, Egg Bert, Mom, Dick Beaudel
Listen for: Riley's attempts to test whether Junior remembers Mother's Day, and Junior's reaction when his father finds his purchase.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
