What happens
Riley buys his family's first automobile after eighteen years of marriage, though it is an old model. He insists on driving despite having no license, and his wife Peg is unhappy about it. When Riley and Peg take the car out, a red light, a collision with a police car, and a flight from the scene lead to a summons to traffic court. Riley's son Junior is involved in a school composition contest about municipal justice. The Life of Riley series aired on October 13, 1950, starring William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg.
Los Angeles, California, at home and then in municipal traffic court
Characters: Riley, Peg, Junior, Digby O'Dell, Judge Herman Bennett
Listen for: Riley's attempt to pass his driving test and the police chase that follows the family's outing
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
