What happens
Chester Riley's wife gives him a modern leather chair for his birthday, but he finds it uncomfortable. After a night out with his neighbor Gillis, Riley is told he has been thoughtless and discourteous toward his wife, and he resolves to become a perfect gentleman. His new politeness leads to a series of awkward moments, including him repeatedly jumping up whenever family members enter or leave the room. Riley's wife concludes the chair is uncomfortable and returns it, replacing it with his old Morris chair. The episode is part of The Life of Riley, broadcast on March 29, 1947, with William Bendix in the title role, alongside Paula Winslowe, Hans Conried and Alan Reed.
The Riley home and the streets of the neighborhood, along with a movie theater, a bus, and a store.

Listen for: Riley's attempts to behave like a gentleman and the chair mix-ups that follow.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
