What happens
Riley and his neighbor Gillis are bragging about their sons while sitting on Riley's front porch. Riley's son Junior has been running away from fights, and Riley is alarmed. He decides to teach Junior to box, and Junior, who would rather not learn, is reluctantly drawn into lessons with his father. Riley's wife Peg disagrees with the idea, and Riley is determined to prove his point. The Life of Riley, first broadcast in 1947 on the Blue Network and NBC with William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg, follows the family's pride and its troubles.
A California bungalow and its front porch, a school yard, and the streets nearby.
Characters: Riley, Junior, Gillis, Peg, Buster, Punchy, Digger O'Dell
Listen for: Riley's attempts to teach Junior to box, and Junior's reasons for running from fights.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
