What happens

Chester A. Riley becomes suspicious when his daughter Babs is dressed up and expecting a visitor, Tom, who she has fallen in love with. Riley's wife Peg tries to get him out of the house, but he stays in and hides in a closet with his friend Gillis to spy on the couple. Their plan goes wrong when the lights go out and Riley is caught. Riley then turns to undertaker Digby O'Dell for help finding Babs a date for the dance, and O'Dell recommends his wife's nephew, Clem, who arrives at the house unexpectedly. The Life of Riley aired on September 3, 1948, on the Blue Network and NBC, with William Bendix as Riley.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
