What happens

Chester Riley and his friend Jim Gillis, machinists at the Stevenson Aircraft Company, feel passed over for promotion while their coworkers advance. Riley is surprised when Mr. Stevenson offers him a desk job with a five-dollar raise, and he is pleased to share the news with his family. Gillis, however, grows bitter and suspicious. Riley must first undergo a physical examination at the plant hospital, and his anxious worries about his health begin to shape his thinking. The Life of Riley is a comedy series, and this 1947 episode stars William Bendix as Riley.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
