What happens

Chester Riley, a family man, tells his son Junior that he once played professional football for the New York Giants, a claim his wife Peg knows is false. When a photo and a school newspaper item spread the story, Riley is pressed by a former classmate, Bruiser McCoy, to play in a night school exhibition game. Riley is left to choose between admitting the lie and facing a team of hard-hitting opponents. The Life of Riley aired on November 23, 1946, on the Blue Network and NBC, starring William Bendix as Riley, with Paula Winslowe and Hans Conried in supporting roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
