What happens

Riley's family decides to give their mother a restful Mother's Day, so the children serve her breakfast in bed and take over the housework. Riley is left with the job of cooking Sunday dinner for a guest, Miss Lindley, whom Peg is bringing home. His attempt at cooking goes badly wrong, and he must find a way to put a meal on the table before the guests arrive. The Life of Riley, a half-hour comedy series, aired on May 14, 1944, on the Blue Network and ABC, with William Bendix in the title role and Paula Winslowe as his wife Margaret.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
