What happens
Riley loses his $60 payday pay and must face his wife Peg, who has warned him against gambling. Riley tries a series of excuses, then borrows money from his neighbor Luella Lowndsbury. The episode is from The Life of Riley, a comedy series heard on the Blue Network and NBC, first broadcast on May 11, 1951, and starring William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg. The story is set around Mother's Day.
The Riley household and the city, including a factory payday parking lot, a department store and a neighborhood street.
Characters: Riley, Peg Riley, Gillis, Chester, Luella Lowndsbury, Babs, Junior, Ethel
Listen for: Riley's increasingly strained excuses when he admits he has lost his pay, and the mix-up over the two parcels.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
