What happens

Chester Riley and his wife Peg host a party where Louella Lounsbury, a southern belle, is the centre of attention. A parlour game of post office leads to suspicion, and Peg accuses Chester of misbehaving with Louella. A fire breaks out at the Wellers' house, leaving Louella homeless, and Chester invites her to stay in a spare room. Peg is angered by the arrangement, and tension builds across the household as the misunderstandings grow. The series, the Life of Riley, aired on 2 March 1951 on the Blue Network and NBC, with William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg.

The Riley home and neighbourhood, in an unspecified town in the United States.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
