What happens
Chester Riley, a factory worker, is struggling with bills after his wife Peg discovers their gas check bounced. Riley has spent money on a Geiger counter from a stranger, which he believes will lead to riches. He searches his backyard and then his neighbor Gillis's property, and his friend Gillis eventually moves into Riley's house. Gillis's new home becomes the scene of a disagreement, and Riley's family gets involved in the uproar that follows. The Life of Riley aired on October 14, 1949, with William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
