What happens

Chester A. Riley, a bumbling husband, becomes convinced that his wife Peg no longer loves him after she gives him a new leather chair for his birthday. Riley's neighbor Jim Gillis argues that he has never been polite enough to his wife, and Riley resolves to change his ways. His attempts to be gentlemanly, however, leave Peg uncomfortable, and she sends the new chair back in favor of his old Morris chair. Riley's later attempt to impress her with a gallant gesture goes badly wrong. The Life of Riley is a comedy series, and this episode aired on March 31, 1950, starring William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg, with Hans Conried and Alan Reed also appearing.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
