What happens

Chester A. Riley, a bluff aircraft worker, is upset that the school newspaper credits his rival Bidwell for a new swimming pool Riley actually helped build. His children Junior and Babs seem to be whispering about a secret, and Riley assumes they are hiding a birthday surprise. Riley's insurance letter and a box of collected donations add to the confusion over what the children are planning. The story is part of The Life of Riley, first broadcast on 1950-01-06 on the Blue Network and ABC, starring William Bendix as Riley, with Paula Winslowe, Hans Conried and Alan Reed in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
