What happens

Babs Riley, a 17-year-old, is forbidden by her father Chester A. Riley from seeing Simon Vanderhopper, a 22-year-old bubble gum seller whom Riley finds unsuitable. The Life of Riley, a radio comedy first broadcast on 1949-02-11 on the Blue Network and NBC, stars William Bendix as Riley. Riley orders Simon out of the house, and Babs later vanishes with him, carrying a suitcase. Riley and his neighbor Digger O'Dell hear the news and fear the worst. The pair have turned to selling greeting cards, and the scene shifts to the Riley home, where Simon has been invited back and Riley's attitude has changed.

The Riley home in Brooklyn, and the neighborhood around it, with a visit to a justice of the peace's office.

Listen for: Riley's reaction when he discovers the greeting card and the justice of the peace's phone call, and the reveal about the chocolate cherries.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
