What happens
George Valentine, a newly independent private investigator, takes on a case from Mrs. Harrington, who confesses she has a compulsive stealing problem that could ruin her husband's campaign for Alderman if discovered. George agrees to watch over her to keep her out of trouble, but when Mrs. Harrington accompanies him on an errand to a department store, her kleptomaniac tendencies emerge again, putting both of them in a difficult spot.
A private investigator's office, a department store, and the streets of the city in the present day.
Characters: George Valentine, Claire Brooks, Mrs. Isabel Harrington, Mr. Gordon, Sonny
Listen for: George's witty banter with his secretary Claire, Mrs. Harrington's nervous confession about her stealing habit, and the escalating tension when Mrs. Harrington steals at the department store despite hiring George to prevent such incidents.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
