When antiques dealer Sam Ferris asks private detective George Valentine to recover a valuable plate from the wealthy Higbee brothers, Valentine agrees to investigate what seems like a simple case. But when he visits the Higbee house in Hickory Corners, he discovers that Doris Brewer, a young secretary staying with the family, has been found dead, and suspicion falls on one of the brothers.

Hickory Corners, a small town with the Higbee family home and surrounding properties including Mrs. Parsons' cottage.

Characters: George Valentine, Sam Ferris, Josh Higbee, Amos Higbee, Mrs. Parsons, Doris Brewer

Listen for: The mystery of the broken plate and how it connects to the secretary's death; Valentine's investigation into which Higbee brother is responsible.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
