What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar arrives in Los Angeles to look into a $100,000 insurance policy on a murdered woman. Police have arrested a drifter named Miller for the killing of Mrs. Palmquist, but Miller claims he was set up by a man named Carter—who turns out to be Dr. Palmquist himself. Dollar must determine whether Miller's wild story holds any truth or if the evidence against him is solid.

Los Angeles, California, present day. Police headquarters and a jail cell block, with references to Dr. Palmquist's house in the Palisades and Blair Hospital.

Characters: Johnny Dollar, insurance investigator, Lieutenant Barry, homicide detective, Miller, the arrested drifter, Dr. Palmquist, the woman's doctor, Mrs. Laura Considine, an attractive widow and patient of Dr. Palmquist

Listen for: Miller's account of how he was lured to Dr. Palmquist's house under false pretenses and claims he walked into a setup. Lieutenant Barry's skepticism about the wild story despite the circumstantial evidence piling up against Miller. Johnny Dollar's growing interest in questioning Dr. Palmquist despite the doctor's seemingly perfect alibi.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
