What happens
Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar reluctantly accepts a case involving the Jolly Roger, a 110-foot diesel yacht owned by the wealthy and disreputable Paula Seganian. The ship has burned to the waterline, a total loss of $460,000. When Dollar arrives in San Diego to investigate, he discovers that his contact, insurance adjuster Bert Parker, has been hit by a car—an incident Parker believes was deliberate murder, not an accident. Parker dies in the hospital after warning Dollar that threatening phone calls preceded the attack.
San Diego, California and a hospital; later a dive bar called Ray Kemper's Cat Club.
Characters: Johnny Dollar, Pat, Bert Parker, Jan Penny, Paula Seganian, Doctor
Listen for: Johnny Dollar's arrival in San Diego for what he thought would be a simple insurance investigation, Bert Parker's mysterious hit-and-run accident and deathbed warning about threatening phone calls, and Jan Penny's emotional connection to the deceased Bert Parker.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
