What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar arrives in Clinton to investigate building irregularities in a school that burned down, killing the janitor who reported the problems. When the building inspector who passed the faulty structure is murdered in Dollar's hotel room, Dollar calls in a team of eight expert investigators to uncover a conspiracy involving the sheriff, fire chief, and building contractor.

Clinton, a small town where a new school building has burned down under suspicious circumstances, and the town's officials appear to be involved in corruption.
