What happens

Jerry Dugan, a young member of a traveling circus, is puzzled when a letter from the Montana Overland Railroad asks about a property once owned by his father, Timothy Dugan. Mr. Randall, the circus owner, agrees to wire the railroad on Jerry's behalf. Meanwhile, strange sounds of cats and a dog fight plague the grounds during a rainstorm, leaving the circus folk baffled. Speed, a performer, eventually admits that the voices are his own, produced through ventriloquism. Jerry and Speed then plan a prank on Major Wilkers, a superstitious midget in the show, while Mr. Randall and Jim turn back to the circus's money troubles.

A traveling circus encamped on sandy ground during a rainstorm, with its office and wagons near the big top.

Characters: Jerry Dugan, Mr. Randall, Speed, Jim, Rags, Major Wilkers

Listen for: Speed's ventriloquist voices appearing from the tree, the tent top, and the wagon, and how the circus folk react to the strange cat sounds.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
