What happens
Circus performers Jerry and Jason are caught by police after being found going through the trunk of Stephen Platt, a railroad baggage man, in a barn. Platt presses charges, and the police hold the pair on suspicion of robbery. Jerry and Jason claim they are looking for evidence to clear Spike, a man convicted of a train robbery more than four years earlier, and Captain Thomas begins to take their story seriously. Circus owner Sam Randall arrives to vouch for them, and the group heads out to search for the missing bonds. The episode is Jerry of the Circus, number 061, originally broadcast on September 20, 1937.
A circus lot and barn at night, then police headquarters and the railroad station in a town during the late 1930s.
Characters: Jerry, Jason, Stephen Platt, Captain Thomas, Sam Randall, Riley, Tom, Spike
Listen for: Captain Thomas's sudden interest in Platt's old case and the scrap of bond paper found in the trunk's false bottom.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
