What happens
Jerry takes over the first walk-around for Johnny Bradley, a clown whose duck, Lulu, keeps wandering off. Bradley has collapsed with a fever in a wagon, and Jerry, a boy who works with the circus, dresses in Bradley's oversized clothes and paints a clown face on himself. Bumps, who runs the show, reluctantly allows Jerry to go on. Jerry follows the duck around the ring, and the audience responds with laughter. Afterward, Bumps and Jerry talk about the act, and Jerry describes the performance as a success.
A circus in the 1930s, including the grounds, the wagons and the ring.
Characters: Jerry, Bumps, Johnny Bradley, Lulu, Rags
Listen for: Jerry's first clown performance, and Bumps reluctantly letting him go on in Bradley's place.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
